The Chronology of the Cold War, 1917-1992 is designed as a reference for scholars, librarians, students, researchers, and citizens seeking a straightforward explanation of particular events regarding the United States, the Soviet Union, and other participants in the Cold War. We have tried to provide an understanding of the issues surrounding decisions and events with regard to the two Cold War superpowers, their allies, and their client states. It is based on portions of the three-volume reference Chronological History of U.S. Foreign Relations (Routledge, 2003), with material added to round out the international picture of the Cold War. Two new maps were commissioned especially for this volume, and most of the photographs were newly researched for this volume at the National Archives and various presidential libraries…
