The book by Julia Bernstein provides extraordinary ethnographic insight into the everyday life of the ex-Soviet migrants. Focusing on "Russian" food products, their packaging, sale and consumption patterns, an in-depth analysis is presented of the migrants' dynamic socio-economic and cultural life worlds. It turns out that transitional references play an important part in coping with contested belongings.
