African Development: Making Sense of the Issues and Actors
In the ongoing battle against global poverty, the countries of Africa continue to present the greatest challenge. African Development offers a comprehensive yet highly accessible introduction to the issues, actors, and institutions involved across the diverse continent.

Each issue chapter is organized around three fundamental questions: Where are we now? How did we get to this point? What are the current debates? Vivid profiles introduce the student to ten well-known "big men" and ten equally important but lesser known African leaders. The reader will also find out why the Washington Consensus" may be less than a consensus, the difference between the red box and the blue box in global trade negotiations, and why no one should believe the poverty numbers in Cote d'Ivoire.

The text also includes an overview of each of the multitude of agencies working in Africa and the ABCs of development jargon, helping the reader to decipher the bewildering array of euphemisms and acronyms commonly used.; other useful features include chapter-by-chapter suggestions for further reading and a comprehensive index.
