Vote for Caesar: How the Ancient Greeks and Romans<br> solved the problems of Today
The modern world is full of perils and seemingly insoluble problems: politicians and pundits come up with fine words, but rarely find any practical answers. There are always traffic jams in our cities; crime continues to be rife; and the young rarely behave as their seniors would like.

In this fascinating and entertaining book, Peter Jones, one of the UK's leading classicists, takes the reader on a journey through the ancient world and shows that the Greeks and Romans faced very similar challenges. He goes on to reveal how our forebears dealt with issues that still plague us and wonders if they might have some lessons that we would do well to learn from.

Sometimes their solutions may be hard to put into practice: for example, Roman citizens paid no tax as the government gained all its revenue from foreign conquest. Unfortunately, we can hardly go and invade France. But we can tax wealthy foreign residents, as has recently been suggested. And what if big companies could, say, build, a hospital or school instead of paying tax? Wouldn't they lap up the reflected glory and so end up contributing more?

The more you read this book the more you realise that these ancient solutions could form a manifesto for our times and that the only sensible is to Vote for Caesar!
