From the Preface

These are the proceedings of a conference on Turkey and Israel: A Comparative Analysis held in April 2007 at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Tel Aviv University, in the framework of the Center's Suleyman Demirel Program for Contemporary Turkish Studies. Bringing together a select group of Turkish and Israeli scholars, the conference was the third dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague, Professor Aryeh Shmuelevitz, who passed away in January 2005

[…] The deliberations dealt with four main themes: Nationalism, Secularism, Religion and State; the Media Revolution; Turkey, Israel, and the Middle East; and finally, Israel, Turkey and the West. The Turkish scholars were Meliha Altunisik, from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Soner Cagaptay, form the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Kemal Kirisci, from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Orhan Tekelioglu form the Izmir University of Economics, and Sultan Tepe, from the University of Illinois in Chicago. The Israeli scholars were Eliezer Don Yihya, Yosef Gorny, Yoram Peri, Itamar Rabinovich and Asher Susser, all from Tel Aviv University except for Professor Don Yihya, who is from Bar Ilan University.
